Sanjiv Goenka lauds Prince Yadav’s India call-up for Afghanistan series debut

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) proprietor Sanjiv Goenka on Tuesday reacted to Prince Yadav receiving his maiden call-up to the India ODI set. The pacer was named in the squad for the upcoming one-off Test and three-match ODI series versus Afghanistan, with both events scheduled to take place in India in June.

The BCCI confirmed the line-ups for the lone Test and the three ODIs against Afghanistan. Prince’s inclusion came after a strong run in the IPL 2026, where he registered 16 wickets for LSG, showcasing pace and precision that earned him national recognition.

Following the announcement, Goenka lauded the young fast bowler in a post on X. “Delighted to see Prince Yadav earn his maiden ODI call-up for India. His rise this IPL season has been a joy to witness,” Goenka wrote, before adding, “He has the heart, the hunger, and the fearlessness to take on the best. This is just the beginning. Congratulations, Prince. I’m proud of you, and so is LSG. Make India proud.”

On the schedule, India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan begins on June 6, with the ODI series following from June 14. The three limited-overs matches run through June 20.

Shubman Gill has been appointed captain for both the Test and ODI assignments. KL Rahul steps in as vice-captain for the Test side, taking over the role from Rishabh Pant, while Shreyas Iyer will act as vice-captain in the ODI team.

Ravindra Jadeja has been given rest ahead of the Test match, while the Test squad also features new faces: Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey.

The squads were selected by the Men’s Selection Committee led by Ajit Agarkar, with Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra, RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha also involved. The announcement was made in the presence of BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.

In the ODI group, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to the top order, and Ishan Kishan has been named as the second wicketkeeper.

India’s ODI roster also includes all-rounders Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar. The spin department will be spearheaded by Kuldeep Yadav, while the pace attack comprises Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav and Gurnoor Brar.
