Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Explains His Mysterious “A” Celebration After 93 vs LSG

Rajasthan Royals teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi turned heads with a 93-run knock against the Lucknow Super Giants in an IPL 2026 game on Tuesday—but the moment that lingered after the innings was his unusual “A” celebration. When he was asked why he chose that gesture, the 15-year-old first played it mysterious, saying he did it “for no reason” and keeping details guarded during the post-match ceremony.

Quick facts

  • Vaibhav Sooryavanshi struck a 93-run innings for Rajasthan Royals vs Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026 on Tuesday.
  • He marked his celebration with an “A” after the knock.
  • During the presentation, he said he did it “for no reason” and did not want to explain further.
  • Later, in a conversation with RR’s Romi Bhinder, he clarified the celebration was dedicated to his mother.
  • Sooryavanshi said his mother’s name starts with “A”; her name is Aarti Sooryavanshi.
  • In the chase of 220, the Royals relied on an early push from Yashasvi Jaiswal (43 quick runs) to build momentum.

Romi Bhinder later spoke to Sooryavanshi on behalf of the franchise, and the opener opened up about the real meaning behind the “A”. In a Royals video, Sooryavanshi explained that the gesture was meant for his mother—specifically because her name begins with the letter “A”.

“This… I dedicated it to my mother. Her name starts with ‘A’. So, I didn’t really want to tell everyone,” Sooryavanshi said in the clip. He added that the decision to keep it private was deliberate, even when he was pressed for a direct answer after the game.

When asked whether it was “a personal matter,” the batter responded that it wasn’t something he viewed as an issue or a topic to be discussed. Instead, he said he simply didn’t want it to become a big storyline—because he wants to keep doing it. “But… it was actually for her,” he concluded.

The “A” celebration, however, had initially been treated as something routine. Earlier, presenter Murali Kartik asked Sooryavanshi about the meaning behind the gesture, and the youngster replied that it carried no particular message. He even said that his celebration from the previous match also had no deeper explanation.

“Sir, I don’t know. I just do something new every match. I don’t really plan it. There’s no meaning behind it. Even the celebration I did in the last match had no meaning. I just keep trying new things,” Sooryavanshi had said at that time.

How the chase unfolded

With a target of 220, staying sharp in the powerplay is often the difference between control and chaos—but Sooryavanshi showed that maintaining momentum after that initial burst matters just as much. The Royals needed a strong start, yet Sooryavanshi began with a touch of caution before accelerating.

That’s where Yashasvi Jaiswal changed the tempo. He stepped in and launched an aggressive spell of batting, racing to 43 quick runs and giving RR the early momentum they required. Once the platform was set, Sooryavanshi found another gear.

After getting his eye in, he began picking gaps confidently and dispatching the ball to the boundary with increasing ease. While the innings started more measured, it soon became fluent, and Jaiswal’s intent at the other end bought him the time to settle without being forced into rushed decisions.

With the run-rate pressure eased by Jaiswal’s momentum, Sooryavanshi played himself in, then once he was fully set, he took apart the bowling attack—turning the chase into a steady progression towards a dominant finish.
