Hardik Pandya Frustrated as Mumbai’s Fielding Blunders Hand KKR the Edge

MUMBAI Indians’ bruising IPL 2026 run hit another low point at Eden Gardens on Wednesday as their meeting with Kolkata Knight Riders spiralled into a sequence of fielding blunders that left skipper Hardik Pandya visibly frustrated. The turning point arrived during KKR’s chase, and the moment captured how costly Mumbai’s lapses have been this season.

It was in the 10th over of Kolkata’s innings when Pandya released a short ball to Rovman Powell. Powell went for a pull, but the shot came off the top edge and ballooned high into the air. What should have been a routine take turned into a mix-up in the deep.

Robin Minz and Deepak Chahar both drifted underneath the ball, yet neither fully committed at the crucial moment. As the catch dropped toward them, both fielders appeared to hesitate, exchanging signals and looking as though they were waiting for the other to claim it. Chahar seemed to be positioned slightly better and, on paper, should have taken the catch cleanly, but Minz even eased away at the last second.

With Chahar seemingly losing focus after registering his teammate in the corner of his vision, the opportunity slipped. The ball finally landed safely between the two fielders, effectively handing Powell a lifeline and underlining how quickly momentum can swing in T20 cricket.

Pandya’s immediate reaction summed up the frustration perfectly. The MI captain looked stunned and disappointed as another preventable mistake compounded Mumbai’s already difficult campaign.

Earlier in the same match, Mumbai Indians struggled to build a competitive batting effort and finished on 147/8 from their 20 overs in a rain-affected game. Opting to bat first, they never truly found rhythm and slumped to 41/4 during the powerplay.

Hardik Pandya contributed 26, while Tilak Varma made 20 as the duo tried to steady the innings with a 43-run partnership. Towards the end, Corbin Bosch provided the late acceleration, remaining unbeaten on 32 off 18 balls, helping MI haul themselves close to the 150-mark.

For Kolkata, Saurabh Dubey struck 2/34, Cameron Green returned 2/23, Kartik Tyagi finished with 2/37, and Sunil Narine picked up 1/13 as the bowlers kept Mumbai under pressure and managed the chase well.

With their playoff hopes already extinguished, Mumbai Indians have endured a season to forget in IPL 2026—marked by injuries, uneven displays, and errors in the field that have repeatedly shifted matches away from them.
