Vaibhav Sooryavanshi-MI Talk Grows After Jatin Paranjape’s Post Sparks Buzz

NEW DELHI: The excitement around Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is showing no signs of fading, and a new wave of speculation has now taken over cricket circles. Could the 15-year-old prodigy, currently lighting up Rajasthan Royals, one day switch over to Mumbai Indians?

The latest round of discussion was sparked by a post from former India cricketer Jatin Paranjape. Writing ahead of Rajasthan Royals’ match against Mumbai Indians, he suggested that Sooryavanshi may end up facing the franchise that could eventually become his “future team.” Since the message went live, fans have been connecting the dots and debating what a possible MI move could mean for the teenager’s path.

A prodigy rewriting records

Sooryavanshi’s rise has been exceptional from the start. Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs 1.1 crore in 2024, and he truly announced himself during IPL 2025. In that season, he became the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket when he struck 101 off just 38 balls against Gujarat Titans. His 35-ball century also ranked as the second-fastest hundred in IPL history.

He wrapped up his debut campaign with 252 runs in seven matches, producing a strike rate of 206.55 as he made an immediate impact.

After concerns that his momentum might dip in a second season, Sooryavanshi responded in the most emphatic way possible. In IPL 2026, he has already scored 122 runs across three matches, firing at a strike rate of 248.97. His recent sequence includes a 17-ball 52 against CSK, then 31 off 18 versus GT, before finishing with a rapid 39 off 14 against MI—performances that have helped Rajasthan Royals remain unbeaten while sitting at the top of the standings.

MI’s legacy of spotting gems

The talk linking Sooryavanshi to Mumbai Indians also has a familiar backdrop. MI’s reputation has long been built on identifying and developing Indian talent early, giving youngsters a platform to grow and eventually become regulars at the highest level.

That pipeline includes players such as Jasprit Bumrah (2013), Hardik Pandya (2015), Krunal Pandya (2016), Suryakumar Yadav (2012), Ishan Kishan (2018), and Tilak Varma (2022), all of whom passed through the MI system before establishing themselves.

With that history, it’s no surprise that supporters and analysts are now placing Sooryavanshi among the next potential names in that line of homegrown success.

Fearless against the very best

Interest surged even further after Sooryavanshi took on Jasprit Bumrah in Guwahati. Going up against the leading pacer for the first time, he struck him for a six over long-on off the very first ball. He then repeated the impact shortly afterwards with a powerful pull shot.

His 39 off 14 balls set the tone for Rajasthan Royals’ 27-run victory, a result that left even opposition captain Hardik Pandya impressed.

“Amazing to see the way he bats, the kind of fearlessness he has, the kind of shots he has,” Pandya said.

At the other end, Yashasvi Jaiswal could only watch and learn as the innings unfolded. The opener described the teenager’s approach as something that stands out immediately.

“The way he has been playing is tremendous,” Jaiswal said. “He’s working so hard… it motivates me as well. I just tell him to play freely.”

Jaiswal also added that Sooryavanshi appears to need little guidance. “He understands the game very well. He’s capable to do it himself.”
