KKR vs DC: The Specific Results Needed to Reach IPL 2026 Top 4

Kolkata Knight Riders head into their concluding group-stage fixture of IPL 2026 against Delhi Capitals on Sunday with a pressure-packed challenge in the race for the playoffs. KKR sit on 13 points from 13 matches, and Punjab Kings’ victory over Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday has not improved their prospects. With the equation tightening, Kolkata will be watching other results closely as well, particularly the outcome of Rajasthan Royals’ clash with Mumbai Indians.

What KKR need to qualify

  1. If Mumbai Indians defeat Rajasthan Royals, the Royals’ side—led by Riyan Parag—would be knocked out.
  2. In that scenario, KKR’s route to the next stage would depend on producing a dominant win over Delhi Capitals, primarily to boost their Net Run Rate (NRR).
  3. KKR, under Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership, would need to win by at least 77 runs.
  4. If Kolkata bat second, they must chase the target within 12.1 overs or quicker.
  5. KKR could also complete the chase in 12.4 overs if they hit a six immediately once the scores are level.
  6. If that chase scenario plays out, KKR and Punjab Kings would finish level on points, but Kolkata would advance on the basis of NRR.

With so many variables beyond their direct control, both franchises are expected to keep their focus sharply on finishing the season strongly, rather than getting tangled in every possible qualification permutation.

KKR’s season narrative: injuries and recovery

Kolkata’s campaign, however, was thrown off course early by problems in their bowling group, caused by injuries and player unavailability. Mustafizur Rahman, Harshit Rana, Akash Deep and Matheesha Pathirana all missed matches due to different issues, while big-money signing Cameron Green—returning from injury—was unable to bowl during the opening phase of the tournament.

Despite the early disruption, KKR managed an impressive turnaround, winning six of their last seven matches to remain in contention. Speaking during a recent event, KKR CEO Venky Mysore described the early period as unfamiliar territory, and then praised the side for how it responded once it found its rhythm. He said everyone stepped up, embraced one another, and pushed the momentum forward, adding a hopeful note for the final match of the season.
