Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Aims for First T20 Double Century at 200

Rajasthan Royals’ teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made a bold, goal-driven statement about his future in T20 cricket: he wants to become the first player ever to hit a double century in the shortest format. The 15-year-old believes that landing a knock of 200 in a single T20 match is not just a dream, but a target he can work towards every time he walks out to bat.

Sooryavanshi set out his ambition during a candid conversation on former England captain Kevin Pieterson’s popular YouTube show, “The Switch”. Speaking with Pieterson, the left-handed batter revealed that he hopes to surpass the mark set by Chris Gayle—widely remembered for his explosive 175 in T20 cricket. Gayle’s landmark innings came in 2013 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Pieterson used the record as a reference point when challenging the youngster.

“I want to score 200 in T20,” Sooryavanshi said on the show. When Pieterson reminded him of the existing record for the highest individual T20 score by Gayle, the batter responded with confidence: “Yeah, I want to break his record and score 200. If I play 20 overs in any game, I definitely will break that record.”

Pieterson then issued another challenge, asking the opener to reach 100 runs from just 50 balls. In response, Sooryavanshi produced a striking display of hitting—showcasing the kind of boundary-making mindset that has also drawn attention to his performances in the IPL—before reaching the century in only 25 deliveries.

Sooryavanshi, who currently owns a top T20 score of 144, has already shown he can play match-defining innings beyond the domestic and junior circuit. One of the standout knocks in his resume came during the U19 World Cup final against England, where he compiled a remarkable 175—an innings that proved decisive and helped underline his potential on the biggest youth stage.

The Bihar-born batter also holds a youth ODI record for the fastest century, having struck his hundred in 52 balls against England. After his record-breaking performance for the U19 side, he reiterated his focus and said he will keep aiming higher: “I will try to score 200 in the next match. I will try to play the full 50 overs. The more I score, the more the team will benefit.”

With Sooryavanshi’s sights fixed on T20 history, attention is also turning to the next IPL action involving RCB vs GT, alongside the latest developments from the tournament. Fans can follow the IPL schedule and keep track of the Orange Cap and Purple Cap race as the season progresses.
