Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal produced a breathtaking display of power-hitting against Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League 2026 match on Tuesday, turning the contest at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati into his personal showcase. Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to field first in a rain-affected game reduced to 11 overs per side. In the end, RR sealed the win by 27 runs, with Jaiswal named Player of the Match. The left-hander struck an unbeaten 77 off just 32 balls, hitting 10 fours and clearing the ropes four times.
Jaiswal’s innings started with an immediate statement, smashing MI pacer Deepak Chahar for 22 runs in the very first over. The early onslaught proved costly for Chahar, making him the most expensive bowler to concede an opening over in IPL history. He surpassed the previous mark held by Luke Wood, who had leaked 19 runs against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in 2024.
After the match, Jaiswal explained how the altered conditions shaped his approach. He said he went into the Powerplay with a plan because there were only three overs of it, thinking through which bowler he could target and what kind of shots he might use. He added that once he saw Chahar come on, he felt he could take him on, and when Bumrah entered the attack, he shifted his focus, momentarily considering whether Vaibhav could challenge Bumrah instead. Jaiswal stressed that he kept thinking about matchups and the shots he could play, and described himself as fully locked into the game.
At the other end, Jaiswal received strong support as well. He and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi put together an 80-run partnership for the opening wicket in just five overs, giving RR a platform that proved crucial in the shortened format. The rain disruption also led to a revised Powerplay, which was reduced to 3.2 overs for the match.
Speaking about his opening partner, Jaiswal praised Vaibhav’s momentum and commitment, saying the way he has been playing has been tremendous and that his hard work is motivating for the rest of the group. He also mentioned that their discussions at the crease help them keep evolving, and noted that when Vaibhav decides to take on a bowler, Jaiswal makes sure to encourage him with positive messages so he can play with freedom.
