Vijay Shankar Joins Kandy Royals as Marquee Pick Ahead of LPL 2026

Vijay Shankar, who has recently stepped away from Indian domestic cricket and the IPL, has emerged as the headline name among the marquee additions ahead of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026. The league’s sixth season will feature a raft of overseas and Sri Lankan talent, with the player draft scheduled for June 1.

LPL 2026 marquee signings: who’s joined whom

  1. Kandy Royals have secured Vijay Shankar as their key overseas capture, alongside a strong Sri Lanka focus with Angelo Mathews and Wanindu Hasaranga. England all-rounder Moeen Ali completes the major international list for the franchise.

  2. Dambulla Sixers have added South Africa batter Reeza Hendricks, with Dinesh Chandimal and Dushmantha Chameera representing Sri Lanka. Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan is the remaining overseas signing for the side.

  3. SC Jaffna Kings, the defending champions, have made three marquee acquisitions led by Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan. They have also brought in Dunith Wellalage and Bhanuka Rajapaksa from Sri Lanka.

  4. Galle Gallants have moved for two marquee players: Eshan Malinga and Dasun Shanaka, both from Sri Lanka.

  5. Colombo Kaps have signed two Sri Lankan players as part of their marquee group, with Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis joining the squad.

Beyond the headline overseas names—Reeza Hendricks, Moeen Ali, Shakib Al Hasan and Sahibzada Farhan—the marquee list also includes Sri Lankan players such as Wanindu Hasaranga, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Dushmantha Chameera, Eshan Malinga, Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Dunith Wellalage and Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

Under the tournament’s rules, each franchise was permitted a maximum of two overseas retentions plus two Sri Lankan marquee selections before the player draft on June 1.

The five-team LPL 2026 campaign will be played from July 17 to August 8.
