Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Explodes for 97 as RR Beat SRH in IPL 2026 Eliminator

Rajasthan Royals’ path in the IPL 2026 Eliminator took a decisive turn on Wednesday, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivering a breathtaking innings to steer the franchise to a comfortable win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 15-year-old produced a stunning 97-run knock off only 29 balls, a barrage that left fans and opponents alike in disbelief, and the impact of his innings was such that even RR’s senior voices were quick to highlight it.

Jofra Archer, a key part of RR’s bowling unit after being picked up by the team for Rs 12.5 crore, was visibly thrilled when asked about Sooryavanshi’s performance. Archer noted that the more runs the youngster piles up, the more runs RR have to defend, adding that the teenager has the ability to reach even 150.

Archer also responded with a light, teasing tone when questioned about where batters should be targeted if they want to get Vaibhav out. The England pacer smiled and said he would share the details after the IPL, refusing to give away any specific bowling plan ahead of time.

Dhruv Jurel, who contributed with a half-century as well, offered high praise for the teenager’s approach. In his view, Sooryavanshi plays with confidence, backs himself completely, and carries no hint of doubt when he walks out to bat.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Jurel said the best part about Vaibhav is that he does not overthink; instead, he puts in plenty of work and consistently backs his own instincts every time he plays. He added that the youngster carries that self-belief into his innings without the shadow of hesitation that can sometimes creep in for younger batters.

Sooryavanshi also crossed an important milestone in the season, moving past West Indies great Chris Gayle to become the leading six-hitter in an IPL campaign, finishing the run with 65 maximums. When asked what sets the teenager apart, Jurel explained that Vaibhav focuses on the ball rather than getting fixated on the bowler.

Jurel elaborated that at the academy, players are taught to keep their eyes on the ball instead of watching the bowler’s actions. He admitted that as a younger player they used to pay attention to the bowler, but Sooryavanshi’s mindset is different—he watches the ball and does not concern himself with anything else, simply aiming to play the delivery in front of him.

Beyond this standout performance, Jurel has been a steady presence for RR with the bat throughout the season, accumulating 508 runs. His tally includes 46 fours and 24 sixes, underlining his ability to contribute in both the timing and power departments. In the do-or-die match against SRH, Jurel’s half-century arrived in just 21 balls, featuring three sixes and five fours.
