Vaibhav Sooryavanshi wows after IPL 2026 stint as RR teen shines in spotlight

NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Royals’ teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may not have walked out in the IPL 2026 final, but he still ended the campaign as one of the tournament’s standout figures. With Royal Challengers Bengaluru beating Gujarat Titans by five wickets in Ahmedabad on Sunday to retain their crown, Sooryavanshi took centre stage during the post-match presentation, collecting a stack of major individual awards after a record-setting season.

Still, it was his frank admission on the stage that won the biggest reaction. After being named the Most Valuable Player of IPL 2026, the 15-year-old said he felt a little uneasy while addressing the crowd at the ceremony. “It feels good but I feel a bit under pressure having to give the interview,” Sooryavanshi remarked, prompting smiles from those present.

A season to remember

Sooryavanshi’s breakthrough campaign was nothing short of extraordinary. He amassed 776 runs across 16 innings, striking at an eye-catching rate of 237.30. His aggressive, fearless style of batting played a major role in reshaping Rajasthan Royals’ fortunes and quickly made him one of the most discussed names in the competition.

The productivity didn’t stop at momentum—his season-end tally also delivered headline honours. Sooryavanshi finished as the leading run-scorer of the tournament, earning the Orange Cap. He completed the feat ahead of Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill, as well as Rajasthan teammate Sai Sudharsan.

He also repeatedly dismantled bowling line-ups with a combination of timing and power. Across the tournament, he struck 72 sixes and maintained a pace that kept opposition attacks constantly under pressure.

Looking back on his rapid rise, the youngster spoke with a level of composure that belied his age. “How to play each game, you can’t play every game the same way. If I have to stay injury free I have to work on my fitness. Everyone is very supportive. All senior players, support staff, everyone backs me and it’s a good atmosphere,” he said.

Awards galore for the RR wonderkid

The MVP trophy was only the beginning of Sooryavanshi’s celebrations. On the final night of the season, he added multiple recognitions to his haul, underlining just how dominant his campaign had been.

  • In addition to the Orange Cap, he was named Emerging Player of the Season.
  • He received the Super Striker of the Season award for his stunning strike rate of 237.3.
  • He also earned Super Sixes of the Season after clearing the boundary 72 times.

Even though Rajasthan Royals missed out on the final after losing to Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2, Sooryavanshi’s performances kept the franchise in the hunt until the tournament’s final week.

For a player who is only 15, IPL 2026 turned into a season defined by records, trophies, and unforgettable batting bursts. Yet amidst all the honours, it was that simple, candid moment—his admission about feeling nervous during the interview—that offered the clearest glimpse of the teenager behind the superstar.
