West Indies have named their squad for an upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka, with several important names returning for the three-match contest. The list of players includes Shai Hope (captain), Ackeem Auguste, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Shimron Hetmyer, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales and Shamar Springer.
Squad overview and key returns
The 15-man group features Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales, alongside Shimron Hetmyer, whose comeback stands out most. Joseph has been sidelined for a prolonged spell due to a back injury picked up last year, while Motie also missed the New Zealand tour last year.
Seales and Shamar Springer have had their workloads monitored by Cricket West Indies, though both have still been selected. Seales was the leading ODI wicket-taker for West Indies during the NZ tour, while Springer was unavailable for that stretch because of a shoulder problem.
Hetmyer’s return is particularly notable. He last featured in an ODI in June 2025, but is back now after a successful T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. In that tournament, he scored 248 runs at an average of 41.33, striking at 186.46.
Cricket West Indies said Hetmyer’s reintegration is “part of CWI’s strategic build-up towards the 50-Over World Cup in October and November next year”. Even so, his recent IPL batting output could raise questions, since he has not gone beyond 22 in any of his eight innings for Rajasthan Royals.
West Indies’ ODI goals and home record
Head coach Daren Sammy stressed the team’s approach for ODI cricket, saying, “In our desire to make home a fortress in ODI cricket, I want the team to win moments consistently rather than relying on individual brilliance which we have stressed for the last 18 months.”
West Indies also bring strong momentum into the series at home, having won each of their last five ODI series in the Caribbean without losing a match in that run.
What the series means
The ODI clashes will carry extra weight in West Indies’ hunt to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The three matches begin on June 3, with all games scheduled to be played at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
