Auqib Nabi, who was overlooked for Afghanistan’s Test selection, has been brought into India’s setup as one of six specialist net bowlers supporting the squad ahead of the upcoming match in Mullanpur. The training camp is scheduled to run from June 6, with the group tasked with simulating match conditions for the India players during their build-up.
Net bowlers named for India’s camp
- Auqib Nabi
- Gurjapneet Singh
- Prince Yadav
- Saransh Jain
- Zeeshan Ansari
- Shivang Kumar
Alongside Nabi, two of the faster-bowling options highlighted are Prince Yadav and Gurjapneet Singh. Prince, who has already started to make an impact across the IPL pathway, is also included in India’s squad for the ODI matches that come after this one-off Test.
In the spin department, Saransh Jain has been selected as the off-spinner. The Madhya Pradesh player brings notable first-class experience, having taken 181 wickets across 52 matches for his state side.
Jain’s MP teammate, who is yet to step into red-ball cricket at the domestic level, adds a left-arm wrist-spin angle to the India nets. From Uttar Pradesh, Zeeshan Ansari is set to provide the other type of spin-bowling challenge, working mainly through leg-break deliveries to keep the batting group working on variations.
Shivang Kumar and Zeeshan Ansari both carry the wrong “un” in their bowling repertoire, rounding out a mix designed to test the India batters from multiple spin angles and seam/swing combinations.
