Bangladesh’s pace-bowling coach Shaun Tait has stepped down from his role, confirming the decision on Thursday. The news had earlier circulated that his tenure was unlikely to continue, and when asked directly, Tait simply said, “Yes. I have stepped down,” without offering further details on the timing or the reasons behind the move.
Tait’s contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board was set to run until the 2027 ODI World Cup, after he joined the coaching group in May 2025. During his time with the national setup, he was widely viewed as having made an impact, particularly in the development of the country’s younger fast-bowling talent. One name that has repeatedly stood out is Nahid Rana, who has made a strong impression in recent years with his raw pace and promise, and Tait has been credited for helping shape his growth as a strike option.
While the coaching change takes place, Bangladesh’s immediate focus remains on an upcoming home series against Australia. The touring side will play a six-match white-ball schedule in Bangladesh from June 9 to June 21, beginning with three one-day internationals at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on June 9, June 11 and June 14.
The action then shifts to Chattogram for the three-match T20I leg at the Bir Shreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, with games scheduled for June 17, June 19 and June 21. With Tait no longer in the picture for the tour, former Bangladesh pacer Talha Jubair is understood to be the most likely candidate to take over as the pace-bowling coach for the Australia series.
