Jaiswal-Sooryavanshi Set to Rival IPL’s Most Explosive Opening Pair

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi have quickly developed a reputation as Rajasthan Royals’ go-to, high-voltage opening duo—one that can take control of an innings in minutes. Their aggressive starts have been a recurring theme in IPL 2026, and the Royals’ early success in the tournament has been tightly linked to what they’ve done at the top.

How the opening partnership has defined RR’s early IPL 2026 run

  1. In RR’s opening game against Chennai Super Kings at Guwahati, Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi combined for 75 runs off 38 balls to set up a straightforward chase.
  2. Against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, the pair struck again, producing a 70-run partnership from 38 deliveries—an innings-defining stand that helped RR edge the match by six runs.
  3. In the clash versus Mumbai Indians, heavy rain delayed the start. Play eventually began at 10:10pm, and RR’s openers immediately pressed the advantage.
  4. During the five-over burst that followed, Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi hammered 80 runs, forcing MI to keep recalculating their plans.
  5. Sooryavanshi was dismissed for 39 off 14, but Jaiswal took charge through the remainder of the powerplay and beyond, finishing with 77 not out from 32 balls as RR posted 150 for 3.
  6. In response, MI lost three wickets inside the powerplay. With overs reduced to 3.2, the chase never found footing, and MI were limited to 123 for 9.
  7. Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi’s early dominance ultimately translated into a 27-run win for Rajasthan Royals over Mumbai Indians.

Brothers of destruction: the numbers behind the blitz

This is not the first time the Royals have benefited from an explosive start at the top. Using a minimum filter of 10 innings, Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi sit among the quickest-scoring opening pairs in IPL history, with only Sunil Narine and Phil Salt ahead of them when comparing scoring rate.

Narine and Salt opened for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024, and in 12 innings together they scored at 12.46 runs per over. Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi trail just slightly, posting a destructive run-rate of 12.36 across 10 innings so far in IPL 2025 and 2026.

Even when compared with a duo often viewed as the benchmark for ferocity, Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi remain ahead. The opening partnership of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma—popularly referred to as “Travishek” by the Orange Army—has produced a rate of 12.29 runs per over in 28 innings, which places them behind the Royals pair.

Next in the ranking comes the opening combination of Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn (2017-19), with a run-rate of 10.6 from 25 innings. Virat Kohli and Phil Salt follow with a run-rate of 10.24 in 15 innings for RCB.

Individual impact

Sooryavanshi has played 10 IPL matches so far and carries a strike rate of 218.71. Over 70 IPL games, Jaiswal’s strike rate stands at 153.58—numbers that underline why their starts often look like the first innings of a chase rather than the beginning of one.
