Bangladesh Tweaks NZ, Sri Lanka Match Timings to Cut Power Use

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a revision to the start times for the country’s next international assignments, citing support for the government’s energy-conservation programme. The changes impact both the men’s white-ball tour against New Zealand and the women’s T20I series versus Sri Lanka, with the board saying the revised schedules are designed to make fuller use of daylight in day-night fixtures.

Why the BCB has shifted the timings

In its statement, the BCB said the forthcoming Bangladesh vs New Zealand ODI and T20I series has been rescheduled to align with the Bangladesh Government’s energy-saving initiative. The board added that the updated timetable will be structured to maximise the use of daylight during the day-night matches.

Men’s New Zealand tour schedule: ODIs and T20Is

The BCB confirmed that the match start times will be moved earlier by three hours for all three ODI matches in Dhaka and Chattogram. The objective is to complete the fixtures by sunset, which is estimated to be around 6:30 pm during this time of the year.

  • ODIs in Dhaka and Chattogram: all three ODIs will begin at 11:00 am.
  • T20Is in Bangladesh: the three T20Is will start at 2:00 pm with the aim of finishing by 5:30 pm.
  • Change from original plan: the T20Is were previously set to start at 6:00 pm, but the revised starts are earlier.

New Zealand are scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on April 13 for a tour featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.

  • ODI 1: April 17 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
  • ODI 2: April 20 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
  • ODI 3: April 23 at the Bir Shreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram.
  • T20I 1: April 27 in Chattogram.
  • T20I 2: April 29 in Chattogram.
  • T20I 3: May 2 in Dhaka.

Women’s series timing update vs Sri Lanka

The BCB also adjusted the women’s T20I schedule against Sri Lanka. Instead of the originally planned 6:00 pm starts, the women’s T20Is will now begin at 1:30 pm at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

  • Women’s T20I schedule: April 28, April 30, and May 2.
  • Venue: Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
  • Revised start time: 1:30 pm (earlier than the initial 6:00 pm plan).
