CSK vs DC IPL 2026: Controversy Erupts as DC Dugout Argues With Umpires

A major flashpoint unfolded during the IPL 2026 meeting between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, with TV replays showing DC’s dugout in open disagreement with match officials. In the penultimate phase of Delhi’s chase, coach Hemang Badani and batters Nitish Rana and others were seen arguing with the officials while the game swung on a critical decision. The tense atmosphere later gained more context when former CSK batter Faf du Plessis, working as a commentator, explained what had sparked the anger inside the Capitals camp.

The controversy centred on Tristan Stubbs and his attempt to change gloves during the over. Du Plessis said DC were frustrated that Stubbs was not permitted to switch his gloves, and that the moment had upset their players as they were pushing for a finish. The situation proved to be a turning point because Stubbs was dismissed on the very next delivery. At that stage, Delhi were 183/8 while chasing a target of 213, and the match effectively turned into a race against the clock.

With 29 needed from the remaining 10 balls, Stubbs had signalled for a glove change earlier, but the fourth umpire denied the request. That ruling triggered further heated exchanges at the sidelines, and the clip spread quickly across social media platforms. The incident drew widespread attention not just because of the emotion on display, but also because it came at such a decisive time in the contest.

Stubbs had been holding the chase together, striking a 38-ball 60 to provide Delhi with a fighting half-century. Still, the dismissal that followed the glove dispute pushed the Capitals further out of reach. Chennai, meanwhile, recorded what was described as their first victory of the season, while Delhi suffered their second straight defeat.

Delhi’s run chase began with intent, as they raced to 61 within the first five overs thanks to a strong opening partnership between KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka, with Nissanka contributing 41. That momentum, however, faded after Nissanka’s departure. The batter had been offered a reprieve when his catch was grassed by Khaleel Ahmed off Anshul Kamboj, but the reprieve didn’t last long as Nissanka spooned the next ball off the bowler to Dewald Brevis near the boundary edge.

At 61 for two in 5.2 overs, Delhi still looked well placed, yet Chennai’s bowlers tightened the screws immediately after. Overton, Khaleel, and Kamboj struck with accuracy and pace, driving the ball into the red-soil surface where it produced lively bounce. The trio managed to restrict the Capitals batters’ options, forcing them to adjust their shot selection and making clean striking difficult as the chase narrowed into a tense finish.
