The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has expressed deep appreciation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the governing body earmarked three Indian Premier League matches for the state in 2026. All three games were staged at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, and the ACA described the initiative as a significant boost for the growth of cricket across Assam.
ACA president Taranga Gogoi and secretary Sanatan Das thanked the BCCI for providing the opportunity to host the fixtures, which were conducted as part of the Rajasthan Royals’ home schedule. In a statement issued on X, the association said the chance to bring three IPL matches to Guwahati played an important role in encouraging and promoting the sport in the region.
The ACA also extended its thanks to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. It noted that despite the pressures of election-related responsibilities, he ensured full support and cooperation to help the matches run smoothly.
Further, the association highlighted the contribution of BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, crediting him for continued motivation and backing for cricket development in Assam.
On the operational side, the ACA praised Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta for helping ensure hassle-free arrangements throughout the match period. The association also recognised the coordinated work of several government departments, including Assam Police, Health Services, GMC, GMDA, APDCL, PHE, Fire & Emergency Services, and PWD.
In addition, the ACA reserved special recognition for the curators and groundsmen, describing them as the “true unsung heroes”. The association said their relentless efforts and commitment helped the venue prepare a playing surface that met required standards, even amid multiple challenges.
The ACA concluded by thanking cricket supporters from across India and beyond for their strong turnout and enthusiasm, saying the collective backing helped create a memorable atmosphere during the matches.
