Rohit Sharma left the field “retired hurt” for Mumbai Indians (MI) while Virat Kohli was also forced off during Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s IPL 2026 clash in Mumbai on Sunday, as Bengaluru held on for a win at the Wankhede Stadium.
Injury moments that shaped the match
MI were chasing 241 when Rohit began to struggle physically in the early phase of the innings. With the right-hander limping as he approached the fifth over, he soon required treatment on the field. Despite trying to continue, it became evident that something was seriously wrong.
Rohit then walked off with his hamstring strapped up, not returning to the crease. He had contributed 19 off 13 balls before the injury ended his spell.
Kohli’s ankle issue and his innings
While Rohit was dealing with his own fitness concern, Kohli had already departed the field earlier in RCB’s batting. The issue was described as an ankle problem, and Kohli was shown receiving treatment on his left leg around five balls into the tenth over.
At the time he went off, Kohli had reached 35 from 25 deliveries. He later finished his knock with a score of 50 off 38 balls, before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya in the 15th over.

Kohli was seen in the dugout as RCB completed the victory over MI. At the post-match presentation, Simon Doull asked RCB captain Rajat Patidar for an update on Kohli’s status. Patidar said, “I don’t know, but I feel he’s okay right now.”
For MI, the setback proved decisive: Rohit’s exit came in a high-scoring chase, but Bengaluru ultimately defended the target and won by 18 runs.
