Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s standout showing in IPL 2026 has placed him on the radar for a potential India call-up, with the 15-year-old now being considered for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland. With India preparing for a June tour that is expected to feature a young squad, selectors are keeping a close eye on his development and impact in the shortest format.
A report has indicated that Sooryavanshi has been shortlisted by the selection group ahead of the Ireland trip. A BCCI source said his name is being weighed alongside several other players, reflecting the wider intent to explore fresh talent for the tour.
The same report suggests that selectors may fast-track his entry into international cricket, largely due to the way he has approached top-quality bowling in the IPL. At just 15, the left-handed batter has already built a reputation for challenging established names rather than settling in cautiously.
If he earns a debut, Sooryavanshi would have a shot at becoming the youngest player to represent India in men’s cricket. The present benchmark is held by Shafali Verma, who made her debut at 15 years, seven months and 27 days. In the men’s records, Sachin Tendulkar remains the reference point, having debuted in 1989 at 16 years and 205 days.
While such an outcome is still not confirmed, Sooryavanshi’s early IPL season has made the possibility feel more realistic. His performances have included several match-changing knocks, underlining why the selectors are paying attention.
In IPL 2026, Sooryavanshi has already produced key innings such as 78 runs off 26 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, 52 off 17 deliveries versus Chennai Super Kings, and 39 off 14 balls against Mumbai Indians. Those numbers highlight both his strike-rate and his ability to take on pressure situations.
His success has come against leading international and domestic pace options as well, with outings that have stood out against bowlers including Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood. That quality of opposition is part of what has strengthened his case for a step up.
Before the IPL spotlight, Sooryavanshi also featured in India’s Under-19 World Cup campaign, adding further weight to the view that his transition into senior cricket could be considered sooner rather than later.
India’s T20I series in Ireland is scheduled for the end of June, with matches set for June 26 and June 28. For now, Sooryavanshi’s inclusion remains a developing story, but his IPL run has clearly accelerated the conversation around an international opportunity.
