SRH Signs Dilshan Madushanka to Replace Injured Brydon Carse for IPL 2026

England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the IPL 2026 season because of an injury, and Sunrisers Hyderabad have moved quickly to fill the gap. The franchise has named Sri Lanka seamer Dilshan Madushanka as Carse’s replacement for the rest of the 19th edition of the T20 league.

Carse’s IPL 2026 injury setback

Sunrisers Hyderabad had secured Carse for INR 1 crore as part of the 2016 champions’ squad-building, but the injury forced him to miss the start of the tournament. Before the campaign even began, Carse was sidelined and did not feature in the opening five matches for the franchise.

After Sunrisers lost their tournament opener to the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), head coach Daniel Vettori explained that Carse had sustained a hand injury. Vettori had also suggested at the time that the pacer was likely to be available for the next match, but circumstances changed.

What Vettori said on March 28

Speaking to reporters on March 28, Vettori described the problem in detail: Carse had been struck on his hand during batting in the nets, specifically on the bowling hand. Vettori said the injury was assessed and cleared of any fracture, though there was noticeable swelling. He added that Carse tried to press for selection, but it became difficult for him to grip and hold the ball. With improvements underway, the coach said they were hoping Carse would be fit for selection ahead of the team’s game in Kolkata.

Madushanka named as replacement

On Tuesday, April 15, the IPL governing council confirmed Carse’s exclusion from the remainder of the season and officially approved Madushanka as his replacement. Madushanka joins Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 75 lakh.

Sunrisers’ captaincy and recent form

With Carse unavailable, Sunrisers will also have to manage their leadership situation. Pat Cummins, the designated captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad, is set to complete a fitness test in Australia on Wednesday, April 16. If he passes the assessment, Cummins is expected to join the squad in India on April 17.

Until then, Ishan Kishan has been captaining the side. Sunrisers have won two of their five matches so far.
