Abhishek Sharma Smashes Fastest IPL Fifty Again vs CSK for SRH

Facing five-time winners Chennai Super Kings on Saturday, Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma produced the quickest half-century of his IPL career, reshaping the record books with another explosive display. The left-hander’s innings also continued a familiar rhythm for him in this season, as he has delivered strongly in alternate matches.

After being dismissed for a duck in the previous game, Abhishek responded in style against CSK, smashing 59 off just 22 balls. His knock featured six boundaries and four maximums, and he raced through the innings at a strike rate of over 268. One of the key moments came when he took on Matthew Short, blasting him for 25 runs, including four fours and a six during the fifth over. That surge helped Abhishek reach fifty in only 15 deliveries, eclipsing his own earlier mark of a 16-ball fifty against Mumbai Indians in 2024.

The 15-ball fifty also ranks as the third-fastest in IPL history. It sits behind Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 13-ball fifty versus Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023, and alongside other rapid half-centuries by KL Rahul, Pat Cummins and Romario Shepherd—each of whom has recorded a 14-ball fifty.

So far this IPL, Abhishek has played six matches and innings, collecting 188 runs at an average of 31.33. His strike rate stands at 229.26, with two fifties on the board and a top score of 74.

Beyond this season, Abhishek has now surpassed the 2,000-run mark in the IPL. He has amassed 2,004 runs from 80 innings, maintaining an average of 27.45 while striking at 167.55. That total includes one century and 11 fifties. For Sunrisers Hyderabad specifically, across 77 innings, he has scored 1,941 runs at an average of 26.95 and a strike rate of 166.89, featuring one century and three fifties.

Abhishek also sits high on the list of fastest players to reach the 2,000-run milestone, getting there in 1,193 balls. He is second in that race, trailing only Andre Russell, who reached the landmark in 1,120 deliveries.

Looking at his year-to-date T20 form, Abhishek has played 19 matches, scoring 511 runs at an average of 28.38 and a strike rate of 209.42. His tally includes six fifties, and he has suffered seven ducks this season—the most by any Indian in a calendar year.

Turning to the match itself, CSK won the toss and chose to bowl first. A 75-run partnership between Abhishek and Travis Head gave SRH a strong platform. Abhishek struck 59 off 22 balls with six fours and four sixes, while Head contributed 23 off 20 balls, hitting three boundaries and a six.

Heinrich Klaasen anchored the innings for SRH, keeping the scoreboard moving as wickets fell around him. Klaasen finished with 59 off 39 balls, including six fours and two sixes, as SRH reached 194/9 after 20 overs.

For CSK, Anshul Kamboj led the attack with figures of 3/22, followed by Jamie Overton with 3/37 and Mukesh Choudhary, who took 2/21.

In the end, SRH held their nerve to win by 10 runs.
