NEW DELHI: After Match 27 of the IPL 2026, the league table shows how close the contest has become. Punjab Kings are sitting at the summit with 9 points from five outings and are still unbeaten. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals are right behind with 8 points apiece, setting up a crowded race in the upper half. Sunrisers Hyderabad have climbed into the fourth spot on 6 points, joining Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans in a tightly packed mid-table group. At the other end, Chennai Super Kings are placed seventh with 4 points, while Kolkata Knight Riders continue to languish at the bottom without a win.
In the game played at Hyderabad, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Chennai Super Kings by 10 runs in a run-heavy encounter. SRH’s innings was propelled by two rapid half-centuries: Abhishek Sharma struck 59 off 22 balls and Heinrich Klaasen made 59 off 39. With that impact at the top, Sunrisers finished on 194/9, building their momentum particularly during the powerplay. Even though Chennai managed to take wickets at stages later in the innings, the early acceleration left SRH with enough of a cushion.
Chasing 195, CSK got off to a fairly positive start, aided by contributions from Ayush Mhatre and Matthew Short that kept the chase alive. However, wickets kept arriving at regular intervals, disrupting the rhythm and preventing a sustained surge. Eshan Malinga was the standout for SRH with three crucial breakthroughs, while Nitish Kumar Reddy added two more to further complicate CSK’s path.
Despite a late push from the lower-order, Chennai could only reach 184/8. SRH’s bowlers then tightened the screws in the closing overs to secure a vital win—one that takes them into the top four and adds further pressure to CSK’s season.
