SRH captain Ishan Kishan praised a youthful bowling group for thriving in high-pressure moments as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) edged Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 10 runs in Match 27 of the IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday. In the post-match presentation, Kishan said it was “lovely” to watch young bowlers execute their own plans, adding that he enjoyed seeing them do their job when it mattered.
SRH’s innings: 194/9 sets the tone
Batting first, SRH posted 194/9 in their full 20 overs. The innings was powered by two strong half-century efforts—Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen—who helped the hosts build a solid platform.
- SRH finished on 194/9 after 20 overs
- Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen struck impressive half-centuries
- Wickets fell steadily in the latter part of the innings, preventing SRH from crossing the 200-run mark
Kishan’s candid assessment of the total
While praising the start, Kishan admitted SRH did not reach an ideal score. He pointed out that the pitch looked good for batting, but the team still ended up short by roughly 30 to 40 runs.
“Very good batting surface, and we were 30-40 short. We should’ve batted better,” Kishan said. He also explained that SRH expected at least one batter to go on and play a big innings, taking the team beyond 220.
Defence of 195: SRH bowlers hold firm
With 195 to defend, SRH’s bowlers tightened the contest at crucial stages. Eshan Malinga spearheaded the effort by taking three wickets, while Nitish Kumar Reddy delivered timely breakthroughs that kept CSK from settling into their chase.
- Eshan Malinga led the bowling with a three-wicket haul
- Nitish Kumar Reddy contributed key wickets to maintain pressure
- CSK managed 184/8 in their chase, finishing 10 runs short
Young bowlers, fearless plans, and a game-by-game mindset
Kishan credited SRH’s result to the preparation and fearless mindset of the younger bowlers. He said that by observing them during practice sessions, he could see their improvement day by day, and that the best way for them to perform is to give them the ball and allow them to carry out their own strategies.
He also stressed that the team is not getting distracted by the outcome or the larger picture. “We are not looking at the points table. Taking it one game at a time,” Kishan added, underscoring a focused, grounded approach as the tournament moves forward.
- Kishan highlighted the importance of backing players to execute their own plans
- He said SRH are keeping a one-match-at-a-time mindset rather than fixating on standings
Points update and next fixture
With the win, SRH climbed to fourth place in the points table. They now have three victories from six matches. Their next match will be against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 21.
