Nandre Burger fined and penalised for gesture towards Rishabh Pant in IPL clash

Rajasthan Royals fast bowler Nandre Burger received a fine of 10% of his match earnings along with one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct in Match 32 versus Lucknow Super Giants. The incident was reported to have occurred at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

What happened during the match?

Burger was found guilty of making a send-off gesture after dismissing LSG captain Rishabh Pant. The gesture was treated as a violation of Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which covers the use of language or actions that may be interpreted as provoking an aggressive response from an opponent.

The left-arm pacer accepted the charge as a Level 1 offence and agreed to the sanction set by the match referee. Under IPL rules, disciplinary decisions for Level 1 breaches are final and binding, meaning there is no avenue for appeal.

Royals win convincingly despite the controversy

The punishment arrived in a game where Rajasthan Royals produced a dominant all-round display to beat Lucknow Super Giants by 40 runs. After setting a competitive but modest target of 159, RR dismissed LSG for just 119 inside 18 overs, leaving the chase struggling from the outset.

Pant’s early dismissal proved to be a major turning point, as it sparked a collapse that never allowed Lucknow to truly gain momentum. Mitchell Marsh was the standout for the chasing side, providing the only real resistance with a determined half-century.

Lucknow’s bowlers had initially kept things tight against RR. Mohammed Shami struck twice in quick succession, while Mohsin Khan and Prince Yadav also maintained pressure with disciplined spells. Still, Rajasthan’s response was decisive, with Ravindra Jadeja playing a key all-round role—remaining unbeaten on 43 to steady the innings after early setbacks and later contributing with the ball to disrupt Lucknow’s fightback.

Jadeja’s impact was backed by Jofra Archer and Burger, both of whom provided crucial breakthroughs during moments when the match could have swung. Despite the disciplinary talking point, the Royals’ collective performance ensured a comfortable, comprehensive victory.

The result moved Rajasthan Royals into second place on the points table, boosting their title push. For Lucknow Super Giants, the defeat added to their woes and they now sit 9th in the standings after another underwhelming batting effort.
