Kohli Hits 69* as RCB Stun SRH; Manoj T Teases “Pressure” Ahead of CSK Clash

Virat Kohli announced his return to T20 cricket in style by smashing an unbeaten 69 off just 38 balls, steering Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a winning start in IPL 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kohli, who had been away from the format for about 10 months, looked completely at ease as he struck five fours and five sixes to power RCB to victory at home.

Former India teammate Manoj Tiwary heaped praise on Kohli’s performance, highlighting how the pressure never truly disappears for the star batter each season. Speaking earlier, Tiwary said, “There will be at least a little bit of pressure because he hasn’t played much.” He added, “But he always comes with proof of why he is Virat Kohli. As long as he is at the crease, there is always belief in the dugout.”

RCB mindset ahead of next game

On Saturday, RCB wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma played down the significance of carrying the “defending champions” tag, stressing that the squad is focused on the bigger prize—winning the IPL 2026 title.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference before RCB’s upcoming meeting with Chennai Super Kings, Sharma referenced RCB director of cricket Mo Bobat, saying, “Frankly speaking, it is irrelevant. As our director of cricket, Mo Bobat, said, we are not defending, we are chasing the title. This is a new season, we have to start one game again at a time, but with the confidence of what we have achieved.”

Sharma also fielded questions about the Impact Player rule, offering a positive take on it. He said, “If you ask me personally, I think it’s a good thing. Our Indian players are getting one more chance, so why not? Someone who is on the bench is getting an opportunity, so I am happy for that.”

Perfect start to IPL 2026

RCB have begun their IPL 2026 campaign on a strong note, wrapping up the tournament opener with a comprehensive six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kohli’s sharp, match-winning knock formed the centrepiece of RCB’s chase and set the tone for their title ambitions.
