Samson struck his second century of the season when he remained unbeaten on 101 from just 54 deliveries. His innings featured 10 boundaries and six maximums, and it propelled CSK to a formidable 208-run target for Mumbai. In the post-match discussion, former CSK batter Suresh Raina lauded the way Samson managed the innings, highlighting both control early on and acceleration when opportunities opened up.
Raina said Samson’s brilliance lay in the balance of patience and intent. He noted that the right-hander took his time at the start, kept a straight bat, and showed respect to quality bowling, particularly Jasprit Bumrah. At the same time, Raina praised Samson’s readiness to pounce on anything loose, using the bowler’s pace and placing the ball effectively.
He also pointed to Samson’s form across the tournament, referencing a century at the beginning of the campaign, a score of 48, and now another hundred. For Raina, that pattern underlined that Samson was operating at an outstanding level.
Spin-led control and match-turning spells
CSK’s bowling, with spin playing a starring role, restricted Mumbai and ensured the chase never gained momentum. The spinners delivered with attacking intent and used the conditions to their advantage, ultimately bowling CSK out for 104 runs within 19 overs. Noor Ahmad, Hosein and Anshul Kamboj were among those to register disciplined spells that fed into the overall rout.
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh zoomed in on CSK’s wicket-taking approach. He remarked that what stood out was the intent of the CSK spinners to strike, pointing out that the ball was genuinely turning—something that isn’t always seen as often in modern T20 cricket. In Harbhajan’s view, the pitch offered significant grip and the CSK bowlers exploited it well.
Harbhajan singled out Akeal Hosein for special praise, especially for how he dismissed Suryakumar Yadav with awareness of the batter’s sweep threat. He argued that Hosein’s spell carried as much impact as Samson’s century, adding that four wickets in a match of this nature is a contribution worthy of deciding the contest.
Samson was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten century. Harbhajan then extended his praise by focusing on Samson’s game awareness, saying that while many players have raw talent, few truly understand how to pace an innings across different phases.
He highlighted that Samson understood the value of batting deep, particularly with a younger side around him. After reaching his half-century, Harbhajan noted that Samson shifted gears—working the gaps with singles and twos—and stayed committed through the final stretch. With wickets falling at the other end, Samson took responsibility and finished strongly, which Harbhajan called one of the best examples of awareness and determination in an innings.
With this victory, CSK moved up to fifth place in the points table, collecting three wins from seven matches. The franchise now turns its attention to its next challenge against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, with the game scheduled to be played in front of the home crowd.
