Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashes 103 off 37 but RR fall short vs SRH

Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered yet another electrifying display in IPL 2026 on Saturday, firing 103 off 37 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Jaipur. The 15-year-old left-hander reached his hundred in 36 deliveries and struck 12 sixes along with five fours, turning the contest into a boundary-heavy showcase. Even so, RR ultimately fell short as SRH chased down 229 to win by five wickets, leaving Sooryavanshi’s brilliance as the most eye-catching talking point despite the defeat.

Former India batter Mohammad Kaif was among those to heap praise on the teenager’s approach, focusing on how fearless and unforced his batting looked for someone so young operating in an IPL cauldron. Speaking on JioHotstar, Kaif underlined that Sooryavanshi appeared to play with unusual freedom, even when facing a bowling group with international calibre.

Kaif said, “Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a once-in-a-generation talent. At just 15, he is making the best bowlers in the IPL look ordinary.”

Sooryavanshi’s innings was driven by instant aggression. He attacked from the outset, repeatedly aiming for the ropes, and maintained that intent even after SRH brought their more experienced bowlers into the attack. One standout moment came when he struck Pat Cummins for a six on the very first ball he faced from the Australian pacer, setting the tone for the kind of impact he was making throughout the innings.

Kaif added, “He even hit his first ball against Cummins for a huge six. He plays like he’s in a gully game—fearless and free.”

Kaif also pointed to the consistency of Sooryavanshi’s rapid starts and explosive finishes, noting that the century was not a one-off. The left-hander had already produced a 35-ball hundred last season, and this time he reached his second IPL ton only a single ball later. In both innings, his strike rate climbed above 250, a clear indicator of how quickly he can shift gears when he gets set.

“Two hundreds in two seasons, both at a strike-rate above 250. That tells you everything about his mindset. He doesn’t care about the name of the bowler or the match situation. He just keeps attacking,” Kaif said.

Beyond the raw power, Kaif highlighted the technical soundness behind Sooryavanshi’s hitting. While the innings looked like pure power and boundary dominance, Kaif believed the youngster’s early judgment of length and his balance at the crease played a major role in keeping his control intact during the assault.

Kaif said, “He bats like a veteran who has played international cricket for ten years. His ability to pick the length early, his balance at the crease, and his raw power are all world-class. He also has a calm head on his young shoulders. That is a rare combination.”

Despite his 103, Rajasthan could not hold their total of 228/6, with SRH completing the chase successfully by five wickets. Still, the match will be remembered for Sooryavanshi’s knock and the manner in which he dismantled the SRH attack—exactly the kind of fearless, high-tempo batting that drew Kaif’s strongest praise.
