Bangladesh have named two uncapped batters, Tanzid Hasan and Amite Hasan, in their 15-man squad for the opening Test against Pakistan, with the match set to start at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on May 8. The touring group also brings back pace pair Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam to the Test arena for the first time since the November–December 2024 window, while off-spinner Naeem Hasan returns almost a year after featuring in his previous Test.
Tanzid Hasan, who has already become a regular in Bangladesh’s white-ball plans, receives his first opportunity in Test cricket. The 25-year-old left-handed opener has built an eye-catching first-class record, tallying 1792 runs across 25 matches at an average of 40. Speaking on Tanzid’s selection, Habibul Bashar, chairman of the national selection panel, said the youngster has been on the radar for Test cricket and that his performances in the longer format justify the call-up. “Tanzid has been in our thoughts for Test cricket. He has a very good first-class record and we felt he deserved the opportunity to showcase his ability in Tests. He has a sound technique and plenty of natural ability. We are confident that if he gets the chance, he can perform well in the longer format,” Bashar said.
Bashar also highlighted the form of Amite Hasan, describing the 23-year-old right-handed middle-order batter as another key inclusion. He pointed out that Amite averages 49 in first-class cricket, having played 82 matches since making his debut in 2019. “Amite has earned his call-up as he has been one of the most consistent batters in our first-class cricket. His temperament stands out and we believe it is well suited for Test cricket. This format demands patience and discipline, and he has shown those qualities over a sustained period,” Bashar added. He further stated that both selections come with long-term value for Bangladesh. “Both these players have time on their side and can serve Bangladesh for a very long period,” Bashar said.
The second Test of the series will be staged at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, beginning on May 16. The fixtures form part of the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
