Tilly Corteen-Coleman, an 18-year-old left-arm spinner from Surrey who is yet to earn an international cap, has been included in England’s squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup. England and Wales Cricket Board announced the 15-player group on Monday, with Nat Sciver-Brunt set to lead the side.
Charlie Dean has been named Sciver-Brunt’s deputy, alongside fellow squad members Issy Wong and Lauren Filer, both of whom will be appearing in the T20 World Cup for the first time. The full England squad for the tournament is: Nat Sciver-Brunt, Lauren Bell, Alice Capsey, Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Dani Gibson, Amy Jones, Freya Kemp, Heather Knight, Linsey Smith, Issy Wong, Danni Wyatt-Hodge.
Speaking about the selection, Charlotte Edwards, England Women’s Head Coach, said the period of anticipation is now over, adding that naming the squad was a difficult process. Edwards noted that the selection meetings were among the toughest she has taken part in because the standard among the players was so high and many talented candidates had put themselves forward for places in the team.
Edwards also described the challenge of making those decisions as something the staff do not take lightly, while stressing that a Women’s T20 World Cup on home soil is a special occasion for the sport in England. She said the squad is highly motivated by what lies ahead for the group this summer.
