Rohit Sharma did not feature in the Mumbai Indians playing XI for their IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai on Wednesday. The MI batter has been sidelined with a hamstring issue and, after missing the previous three games, was still not fully cleared to return.
How Rohit’s injury left him short of selection
- Rohit had been ruled out of MI’s last three matches because of a hamstring injury.
- He picked up the problem during Mumbai’s game versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12, showing signs of discomfort and needing treatment during the contest.
- At the toss on Wednesday, MI captain Hardik Pandya said Rohit would require additional time to reach full match fitness and therefore would not be available for this fixture.
Hardik explained the decision at the toss, saying Rohit is working towards being fully ready but is not yet at the level he would like, adding that he wanted the team to be at its best. Rohit’s absence meant MI had to reshape their XI for the clash with SRH.
Team news and lineup changes
Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bat against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
MI made several changes to their squad for the match. Ryan Rickelton, Will Jacks, Robin Minz, and Trent Boult came into the XI, while Quinton de Kock, Sherfane Rutherford, Shardul Thakur, and Krish Bhagat were left out of the starting group.
Sunrisers Hyderabad also adjusted their combination. Travis Head and Harsh Dubey were included in place of Aniket Verma and Shivang Kumar as SRH fine-tuned their lineup for the encounter.
