IPL 2026: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi one six from joining T20 100-sixes club

Rajasthan Royals’ teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made an immediate impact in IPL 2026, and he now has a fresh target within touching distance. The 15-year-old is just one maximum away from reaching 100 sixes in T20 cricket. Should he get to the milestone, he would become the only teenager in the world to achieve that tally in the format.

Sooryavanshi has already been rewriting benchmarks this season, piling up standout milestones along the way:

Fastest to 400 runs in an IPL season: He reached 400 runs off just 167 balls, eclipsing the earlier mark of 188 deliveries set by Andre Russell.

Youngest and fastest to 1,000 T20 runs: In a 37-ball 103 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he became the youngest player to cross 1,000 runs in men’s T20s and also did it quicker than anyone else by balls faced. His 1,000th run came in 473 balls, moving past Mitchell Owen’s 533-ball record.

Most sixes by an Indian in an IPL innings: On April 25, 2026, he struck 12 sixes against Sunrisers Hyderabad, breaking the previous Indian record of 11, a mark he had shared earlier with Murali Vijay.

Fastest century of the season: His 36-ball hundred versus SRH was the quickest ton of the 2026 campaign and ranks as the third-fastest century in IPL history.

Youngest to multiple centuries: He is the youngest batter ever to register two IPL centuries, and both came when he was still under 40 balls into his innings.

With all that momentum, attention has now turned to the possibility of his 100th six arriving soon. That moment could come when Rajasthan Royals take on Delhi Capitals in Jaipur, where a single big hit would seal the landmark.

Top 5 teenagers with most sixes in T20s

  • Vaibhav Sooryavanshi — 27 innings, 10199 runs, 199 sixes
  • Rahmanullah Gurbaz — 52 innings, 1271 runs, 190 sixes

There is also another major six-hitting record within range for Sooryavanshi. He has the chance to overtake Abhishek Sharma’s mark for the most sixes by an Indian in a single IPL season. Abhishek currently holds the record with 42 maximums in IPL 2024, and Sooryavanshi is closing in on that number.

So far in IPL 2026, Sooryavanshi has amassed 400 runs across 9 matches at an average of 44.44, striking at 238.09. His output includes one century and two fifties, with a best score of 103. He has also hit 34 fours and 37 sixes, and he required just 6 more sixes to surpass Abhishek’s IPL season benchmark.

Looking beyond this season, the youngster’s rapid rise began after his debut last year. Since entering the IPL in the previous season, he has scored 652 runs in 16 innings, averaging 40.75 with a strike rate of 224.82. His totals include two centuries and three fifties.
