Delhi Capitals fast bowler Kyle Jamieson has received a demerit point after an aggressive moment involving 15-year-old batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during their Indian Premier League clash with Rajasthan Royals. The incident, which quickly drew attention on social media, was assessed under the IPL Code of Conduct and resulted in an official warning as well.
What led to the demerit point
- In Friday’s match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Jamieson was involved in an on-field episode shortly after dismissing Sooryavanshi.
- The IPL disciplinary review found that Jamieson breached Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct. That article covers language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could spark an aggressive response from another player in the match.
- The moment happened in the second over of the first innings. After taking the wicket of the teenager, Jamieson was observed to be close to him in an aggressive manner—an action deemed capable of provoking a reaction.
- The league stated that Jamieson accepted the offence and agreed to the sanction handed down by match referee Rajeev Seth.
As part of the same decision, the IPL confirmed that Jamieson accumulated one Demerit Point for breaching Level 1 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials, along with receiving a warning.
Result of the match
Despite the controversy, Delhi Capitals came out on top, beating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets to record their fourth victory of the ongoing season on Friday.
