- Points impact: MI stay with four points; CSK move to eight points
The most talked-about moment came during the 12th over of Mumbai’s innings. Tilak Varma was hit on the wrist by a delivery from CSK pacer Jamie Overton, and his wristwatch came loose as a result of the impact.
After taking the blow, Tilak signalled toward the dugout. The physio was on him immediately, checking his condition while it became clear that the fitness-tracking band had shifted and come off.
Once the medical staff had finished the quick inspection, Tilak put the watch back in place and returned to his batting duties. He had been trying to play a scoop shot off Overton, but the shot was missed entirely, with the ball striking his wrist and knocking the device loose.
Online reports suggest the gadget is a WHOOP fitness tracking band, typically priced at around Rs 28,000. The incident, however, did not interrupt Mumbai’s momentum enough to change the overall outcome of their innings.
Gaikwad steers CSK
Chennai’s chase was built on steady batting and a decisive contribution from their captain. Ruturaj Gaikwad produced his second straight half-century of the season as CSK took control and cruised to the win.
Gaikwad finished unbeaten on 67 off 48 balls. He and Kartik Sharma stitched an unbroken 98-run stand for the third wicket, with Sharma making 54 not out, guiding Chennai to the target of 160 without undue drama.
Mumbai’s campaign continues to struggle. The side has managed only two wins from nine matches, leaving them on four points, while CSK climbed to eight points from the same number of outings.
