SRH vs KKR IPL 2026: Five-win SRH face revived KKR momentum clash

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head into their IPL 2026 clash with contrasting momentum after an uneven start to the campaign. Both sides began with early setbacks, each suffering three losses in their opening four matches. However, the situation has flipped: SRH are riding a five-game winning streak, while KKR have picked up rhythm late in the season opener phase, winning their most recent two matches to register their first pair of victories.

KKR’s season story: early struggles, late lift

KKR’s batting unit, particularly the top three, has struggled to deliver consistency this season. Their top order has the lowest average among the teams, and it also carries the second-worst strike rate. Their lineup has not been fully stabilised either, with Sunil Narine trialled as an opener before being pushed back into the lower middle order again.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane’s form has also become a talking point as KKR look to build steadier contributions across their batting card.

Rinku Singh’s impact

In the middle of KKR’s turnaround, Rinku Singh has stood out as a key difference-maker in the last two outings. He played a decisive role in their first win of the season against Rajasthan Royals, striking a half-century. Then, against LSG, he remained unbeaten with an aggressive 51-ball 83*.

  • Rinku Singh scored a half-century in KKR’s victory over Rajasthan Royals.
  • He followed it up with an unbeaten 51-ball 83* against LSG.
  • He is currently KKR’s leading run-getter for the season, having amassed 215 runs in eight innings.

Even though Rinku is often used as a finisher, he has been arriving at the crease earlier than expected this season, suggesting KKR may be leaning on him to accelerate the innings at different stages depending on early conditions.

SRH’s rise: batting firepower backed by death-overs control

For SRH, batting remains their clearest strength, but their bowling has also delivered meaningful results—especially during the final overs. The franchise is showing standout numbers in the death phase so far.

  • SRH hold the best economy rate in the death overs, at 8.6.
  • Their strike rate in the death overs is also the best in the competition, with a balls-per-wicket ratio of 9.6.

SRH’s yorker-focused bowling has been a major factor, with Praful Hinge, Sakib Hussain and Eshan Malinga all highlighted for their effectiveness with the ball. Beyond that, SRH also boast the best balls-hitting-wicket rate across all teams this season, underlining how often their bowling converts pressure into dismissals.

Bowling coach Tim Southee on the challenge of KKR’s top order

KKR bowling coach Tim Southee previewed the contest with an emphasis on how SRH’s threats can be targeted, but also acknowledged what makes their opposition so dangerous—particularly the batting patterns that have been effective for SRH.

He said: “We know how dangerous this side’s been, particularly their top three, and then the likes of Klaasen and that through the middle. Just see it as a great opportunity for our bowlers. I think we bowled reasonably well to them in the first fixture against them. Anytime you come up against dangerous batters, it’s always a great challenge for bowlers. I’m sure here we know it’s a pretty good wicket. As a bowling group, they’re excited for a big opportunity tomorrow.”
