Gill stunned as Danny Morrison quips “no wedding bells” at GT-PBKS toss

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill looked visibly caught off guard during the toss ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 clash against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. The light-hearted moment took an awkward turn when broadcaster Danny Morrison, while chatting with the captain, asked him about marriage—an unusual topic for the traditional pre-match toss exchange.

Toss moment takes an unexpected turn

Gill won the toss and chose to field first, and the proceedings were moving as expected until Morrison steered the conversation into personal territory. After Morrison asked Gill about “wedding bells” and whether there was anything fans should know about his relationship plans, Gill paused for a moment before responding with a brief, clear answer. The exchange effectively cut short the interaction, with Morrison quickly moving on to talk to Shreyas Iyer, the captain of Punjab Kings.

The exchange between Gill and Morrison

  • Morrison asked: “Still, Shubhers, there are no wedding bells around the corner? Anything that we need to know about.”
  • Gill replied: “No. No. Nothing.”
  • Morrison then said: “Good to see you.”

Gill previously left speechless by the same question

This was not the first time Morrison had managed to put Gill on the spot with a similar line of questioning. Last year, the former New Zealand fast bowler asked Gill about marriage again in front of him during an IPL setting where Gill was serving as India’s Test and ODI captain.

In that earlier episode, ahead of the IPL 2025 meeting between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat, Morrison asked Gill: “You’re looking lovely, no wedding bells in the future. What’s happening? You getting married?”

Gill on his relationship status: “single for over three years”

Gill had also addressed his personal life in the past. During an interview with Hollywood Reporter India, he said he had been single for more than three years and described how ongoing rumours often linked him to different people.

  • Gill said he had been single for “over three years,” noting that rumours and speculation kept circulating about him.
  • He explained that some of the reports were so unrealistic that he claimed he had never even met certain people mentioned in the gossip.
  • Gill added that his focus on his professional career left little room for a relationship, describing a packed schedule with travel and time on the road—“hardly any time” to invest in something off-field.

Gujarat’s team update for GT vs PBKS

With the toss complete and Gujarat opting to bowl, the match in Ahmedabad also brought a squad adjustment for the Titans. Gujarat made one change for the game, bringing in Nishant Sidhu in place of Shahrukh Khan.
