Gill Stumped by Marriage Question at Toss Before IPL 2026 vs Punjab Kings

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill found himself momentarily tongue-tied at the toss ahead of the IPL 2026 contest against Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad on Sunday, after broadcaster Danny Morrison slipped in a personal question about marriage. Gill won the toss and opted to bowl, but the light-hearted exchange took an unexpected turn when Morrison asked whether there were “wedding bells” on the horizon. The GT skipper appeared genuinely taken aback before answering “no,” and the interaction was cut short as Morrison moved on to speak with Shreyas Iyer. Footage of the brief conversation has since spread widely on social media.

Gill stunned by Morrison’s wedding-bells question

During the toss segment, Morrison addressed Gill directly with the line: “Still, Shubhers, there are no wedding bells around the corner? Anything that we need to know about.” Gill’s response was immediate and firm: “No. No. Nothing.” Morrison then quickly added, “Good to see you,” before turning his attention elsewhere.

Morrison’s earlier similar moment at Eden Gardens

This was not the first time Morrison has left Gill without a response at the toss. The broadcaster had asked a comparable question during the IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens, again leaving the captain completely speechless.

Team news: Gujarat Titans make one change; Punjab Kings bring in a pacer

For the IPL 2026 match in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bowl against Punjab Kings. Gujarat made a single alteration to their playing XI, giving Nishant Sindhu his debut. Punjab Kings, meanwhile, included pacer Xavier Bartlett in their XI.

Gill’s toss thoughts: bowling first, momentum, and middle-order finish

Explaining his decision, Gill said: “We’re gonna bowl first. I think we have been chasing well in the past few games and our bowling has been top-notch, so we thought we’ll continue with the momentum.” He then referred to the team’s recent emphasis on late batting, adding that in the previous match they had discussed how the middle order would need to close out the game, and that “Rahul bhai” looked magnificent in that role, finishing the contest in the exact way they had spoken about.

When asked about the pitch, Gill replied that early on there is typically something available for bowlers, especially on a wicket of that nature, and that they would see how conditions evolve. On the team’s progress in the season, he said it is about timing—highlighting that in a competition like the IPL, which runs for a long stretch, the key is to peak at the right moment—and suggested that the best version of Gujarat Titans might still be ahead.

Gill also confirmed there was no further reshuffle beyond the debut: “One change – Nishant Sindhu makes his debut,” he said at the toss.
