Just 24 hours after stepping onto the IPL stage for the first time, Chennai Super Kings’ bowling allrounder Ramakrishna Ghosh has been ruled out of IPL 2026 after suffering a fracture to his right foot. The franchise said the injury occurred during the match against Mumbai Indians in Chennai on Saturday.
Ghosh’s debut had arrived in a memorable burst of impact. In the opening phase, he produced a spectacular dive near the point boundary on the eighth ball of the contest to send back MI batter Will Jacks. Shortly after, when he was introduced with the ball, he made an immediate mark by removing Suryakumar Yadav in his second over—using pace off a short delivery clocked at 133 kph—before the batter was caught at deep point.
Born in Maharashtra, Ghosh first entered CSK’s plans during the 2025 mega auction, when the team picked him at his base price of INR 30 lakh. However, he did not feature in a match during that season. Ahead of IPL 2026, he was retained, and his first appearance came on Saturday, in the same fixture where CSK secured a win over Mumbai Indians for the second time this campaign.
The injury also adds to CSK’s growing list of absentees. Ghosh becomes the fourth player overall and the third pace option to be ruled out for the franchise, following Nathan Ellis, Ayush Mhatre and Khaleel Ahmed. CSK have not yet announced who will replace him in the squad.
With the league nearing its later stages, CSK sit sixth on the points table, having collected four wins from nine matches. Their next outing is scheduled against Delhi Capitals on May 5 in Delhi.
