Rickelton’s Orange Cap climb continues as IPL 2026 race reshuffles

Mumbai Indians took on Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL 2026 match at Wankhede on Monday night, with both sides coming into the contest among the season’s lower-ranked performers. The game also had a clear storyline for the individual charts, as one batter made a meaningful leap after the final over. Here’s where the race stands as a new set of matches gets underway.

Orange Cap: quick scan

  • 1st: Abhishek Sharma (Sunrisers Hyderabad) — 440 runs
  • 2nd: KL Rahul (Delhi Capitals) — 433 runs
  • 3rd: Heinrich Klaasen (Sunrisers Hyderabad) — 425 runs
  • 4th: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals) — 404 runs
  • 5th: B Sai Sudharsan (Gujarat Titans) — 385 runs
  • Ryan Rickelton (Mumbai Indians) rose with 83 off 32 balls to 380 runs, moving to 6th

Orange Cap leaderboard

The top five positions on the Orange Cap list have not changed from the situation after Sunday’s double-header. Abhishek Sharma remains on top with 440 runs, followed by KL Rahul on 433, Heinrich Klaasen with 425, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at 404, and B Sai Sudharsan rounding out the fifth spot with 385.

Once you move beyond the 300-plus cluster—where nine batters were sitting before Monday—Mumbai’s Ryan Rickelton is the name accelerating upward. While his season has not been as steady as some of the other leading run-makers, his impact has been sharp whenever he has settled in.

Against LSG, Rickelton delivered exactly that kind of burst, smashing 83 in just 32 balls to push MI past Lucknow Super Giants. The knock brought his season total to 380 runs and lifted him to the No. 6 position on the Orange Cap table, with no other batter from either MI or LSG currently inside the top 20.

KL Rahul, meanwhile, is set to play again on Tuesday night against Chennai Super Kings. With just a couple of fours required, he can potentially move to the very top of the standings.

Purple Cap leaderboard

The bowling picture did not swing dramatically on Monday, and the numbers reflected that. With the match staged at Wankhede, only nine wickets were taken, and Lucknow’s Prince Yadav failed to make a further dent in the leaders by finishing wicketless.

As a result, Prince stays at No. 6 with 13 wickets, sitting behind the top five: Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) on 17, Anshul Kamboj (Chennai Super Kings) also on 17, Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat Titans) with 16, Jofra Archer (Rajasthan Royals) on 15, and Eshan Malinga (Sunrisers Hyderabad) on 15.

With Chennai Super Kings up next for Kamboj’s campaign, he has a chance to take over the lead in the Purple Cap race tonight—provided he picks up at least one wicket.
