After receiving the award, Overton said it felt satisfying to get the job done, adding that the finish was a touch tight before CSK crossed the line to pick up another set of crucial points. He credited his process to sticking with what has been working—targeting the stumps and aiming to force batters into mistakes off the pitch.
Overton explained that he was looking to create pressure from the leg-side and praised the importance of taking wickets at key moments. He also highlighted the significance of removing Josh at that stage, while noting that he works with Eric Simons to refine his bowling plans.
Inglis and Pant removed at the start of the ninth
Josh Inglis delivered a spectacular knock of 85 off 33 balls, but his momentum was checked when Overton struck with the first ball of the ninth over. Inglis was dismissed immediately, a turning point that shifted the pressure back towards LSG.
In the same over, Overton also accounted for Rishabh Pant, who scored 15 runs off 12 balls. Overton’s ability to deliver breakthroughs while batters were looking to press forward played a central role in CSK keeping LSG’s chase within reach.
When asked about his mindset against aggressive batting, Overton said it is often straightforward—focus on executing the basics rather than tracking every move the batter makes. He emphasized controlling what he can, especially by hitting the top of the stumps and cleaning up his own errors, while accepting that the rest is outside his control.
More wickets and a fitness update
Overton struck again by dismissing Akshat Raghuwanshi in his third over, pushing his wicket count in the IPL season to 14. It also marked an improvement from his previous outing, where he had only bowled one over against Delhi Capitals, with injury concerns having circulated around his availability.
Following the match, Overton addressed the fitness chatter directly. He said he was feeling good, acknowledging minor niggles but making it clear that the team would continue moving forward and pushing on.
CSK’s successful chase of 204 started with Urvil Patel’s quick 65, giving them early momentum. In the closing stages, Shivam Dube contributed 15 off seven balls and Prashant Veer struck 18 off 12, ensuring the target was reached with four balls left.
With the win, CSK moved down into fifth place, having now recorded six victories from 11 matches. Lucknow, meanwhile, remain anchored at the bottom of the points table, still managing only three wins from their 11 outings.
