Bangladesh’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has set up a three-person inquiry panel to examine the reasons behind the national team’s withdrawal from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh’s decision to pull out was linked to security worries in India, a concern that emerged after Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladesh quick bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad. Not long after, Bangladesh sought to have its T20 World Cup matches shifted away from India, requesting the ICC to move the fixtures to Sri Lanka. The ICC did not accept the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s request, and Bangladesh were ultimately replaced in the tournament by Scotland.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s state minister for youth and sports, Aminul Haque, said the government would form an investigation committee to determine whether the T20 World Cup snub reflected a diplomatic lapse. Under an official government directive dated May 10, 2026, the panel will be chaired by former Additional Secretary Dr. A.K.M. Oli Ullah. The two other members are former captain and current chief selector Habibul Bashar Sumon, along with Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Faisal Dastagir. The ministry has asked the committee to submit its report within 15 working days. “We will try to start working as soon as possible. And hopefully we will submit our findings in 15 working days,” Oli Ullah said to reporters on Monday.
