A German model, LizLaz, has alleged that certain journalists approached her with offers of money after a social media stir involving India batting icon Virat Kohli. The controversy erupted when Kohli’s Instagram account appeared to “like” one of her posts, an interaction that quickly spread across the internet given Kohli’s enormous fanbase and the attention his online activity attracts.
As the incident gained traction online, LizLaz said that multiple media outlets reached out to her and attempted to persuade her to make claims that she described as false about the cricketer. Speaking during an interview with Filmymantra Media, she said that some journalists even offered her payment to speak negatively about Kohli and to level allegations that, in her view, he never made. She questioned the motive behind such requests, adding that she could not understand why anyone would pay for misinformation.
LizLaz also emphasized that Kohli is her favourite player and insisted she has no intention of tarnishing his reputation for publicity or money. She said she was genuinely surprised at how much attention the matter drew, and admitted that she became emotional after noticing Kohli’s interaction with her post. “I was very happy and a little emotional about it, but I never expected something like this to happen,” she said, while also noting that the sudden media focus left her feeling uncomfortable.
According to her, the pressure did not stop at requests for statements—she suggested that some people tried to push her into saying things she did not want to say. She further maintained that she turned down every offer made to her because she did not want to spread false stories. “So why would I say bad things about him for money? I’m not that kind of person,” she added.
Following the controversy, LizLaz shared multiple pictures in which she wore a Royal Challengers Bengaluru jersey.
