Sunrisers Hyderabad missed a major chance to climb to the top of the points table, collapsing to their lowest-ever IPL score of 86 while chasing 159 in Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans, after bowling first, kept things remarkably tight at 158/5, with Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar producing the two key batting bursts. But once SRH slipped early, the chase never recovered.
SRH’s batting was undone inside the Powerplay, where they were reduced to 34/4 after Kagiso Rabada struck quickly. Although the Titans’ bowling created the pressure, it was SRH’s inability to build partnerships that ultimately sealed the outcome. For Gujarat, the 82-run win delivered a major net run rate boost and extended their winning run to five straight games, taking them to the summit of the table.

Match in phases
Gujarat Titans set the chase target of 159 after reaching 168/5 in their 20 overs. Sai Sudharsan’s 61 off 44 and Washington Sundar’s 50 off 33 anchored a total that later looked challenging for SRH. In response, SRH collapsed to 86 all out in 14.5 overs, handing Gujarat an 82-run win.
Rabada struck with three wickets for 28, while Holder also returned figures of 3/20. Prasidh Krishna chipped in with two wickets, finishing with 2/23, as SRH were unable to find any real rhythm after their early setbacks.
Slowest Powerplay for GT
On a surface that required patience at the start, Shubman Gill couldn’t turn a reprieve into a big score. He went for just five after hitting a Praful Hinge delivery straight to mid-on. Even so, Pat Cummins kept the pressure on with a pair of tidy Powerplay spells, limiting SRH’s scoring options.
Hinge then influenced the captain’s decision-making, with a late caught-behind review against Jos Buttler paying off. The hosts slipped to 26/2 in the final over of the Powerplay, though a brief cameo from Nishant Sindhu helped them reach 34/2 at the six-over mark.
Sudharsan and Washington rebuild
Sindhu’s burst didn’t last long, and the Titans lost momentum briefly despite striking a six and a four off Nitish Reddy. Cummins eventually ended the early enterprise in the 10th over, leaving Gujarat at 68/3 at the halfway stage.
Once Sai Sudharsan settled, the innings shifted into a more productive gear. He accelerated with two sixes on his way to a calm half-century, striking at a steady pace to reach 50 off 38 balls. However, Sakib removed the batter after he had stitched a crucial 60-run partnership.
Washington Sundar carried the charge forward, helping Gujarat grow again during the death overs. An expensive penultimate over from Eshan Malinga allowed the Titans to surge beyond 150, setting a much stiffer ask for SRH. Washington then reached his fifty in the final over, completing it off 32 deliveries, and Gujarat’s second-half surge gave their bowlers a competitive total to defend.
Rabada jolts SRH early
SRH’s collapse began right in the Powerplay. Mohd. Siraj produced a wicket-maiden by dismissing Travis Head for a four-ball duck. Abhishek Sharma tried to counter the pressure by striking Rabada for a six on his introduction, but the South African quickly regained control.
Two balls later, Abhishek’s wicketless start couldn’t be sustained as the batter’s inside edge gave the bowler another breakthrough, sending the opener back for six. Ishan Kishan also threatened briefly with a maximum, yet Rabada returned again in the next over to have him nicking behind.
In the last over of the Powerplay, Smaran Ravichandran lofted a ball straight to mid-off, leaving SRH staring at 34/4. From there, the chase became a constant uphill battle, with every over demanding wickets as well as runs.
Holder and Prasidh finish it off
Salil Arora halted the freefall and struck a few boundaries off the SRH pacers, giving SRH a short-lived lift. Still, the visitors could only reach 54/4 by the ninth over. Prasidh then broke through in the 10th, getting Arora to edge behind to the wicketkeeper.
Holder followed with another blow, removing Heinrich Klaasen for just 14 with a short ball. Only three deliveries later in the same over, a tumbling catch from Washington brought the end of Nitish Reddy, SRH’s last recognised batter.
Cummins managed some late damage with the bat, but it didn’t change the inevitable result. He became Prasidh’s second victim, and Rashid completed the formalities by bowling out Hinge, leaving SRH stranded at 86.
Where do they go next?
Sunrisers Hyderabad travel to Chennai for their Monday fixture against CSK. Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, head eastwards to Eden Gardens, where they take on KKR on Saturday.
