Mohammed Siraj has emerged as one of the standout fast-bowling performers in the current Indian Premier League. So far, he has taken 13 wickets in 12 games, maintaining an economy rate of 8.23. Former India opener Kris Srikkanth, a World Cup winner from 1983, believes the Gujarat Titans deserve major credit for Siraj’s shift in impact. Srikkanth pointed out that Siraj first broke into the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017, later joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and spent seven seasons there before Gujarat Titans eventually brought him into their setup.
Srikkanth also highlighted Gujarat’s ability to identify and elevate talent such as Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar, arguing that the franchise has provided them with the right opportunities to grow. The former India batter made these comments in a video posted on his YouTube channel. In his words, “(Mohammed) Siraj was terrible with RCB. But here, he has become a deadly bowler. Similarly, no other team would have even taken Sai Sudarshan. Yet, GT have transformed him to a different level. He has made Washington Sundar score at No.4 and turned him into a batting allrounder,” Srikkanth said.
While Srikkanth noted that Gujarat Titans may not always be defined by star names, he stressed that the squad still possesses match-winning options against any opponent in the league. He said Shubman Gill has been steering the side since IPL 2024, after Hardik Pandya previously held the captaincy role. Srikkanth added, “They have a brilliant bowling lineup. And they still have Washington Sundar, who they don’t use only. Jason Holder doesn’t even give 25 to 30 runs every match. He bowls brilliantly in the middle overs and takes wickets for them.”
Gujarat Titans have also established themselves as one of the most reliable franchises in IPL history since their entry in 2022. In their debut season, they went on to win the tournament, securing their first-ever title. Over the next three editions, they reached the playoffs twice. With their campaign continuing strongly, they have also put themselves close to qualification for the IPL 2026 playoffs. At present, Gujarat sit on 16 points from 12 matches, and a single additional win would effectively confirm their berth in the next stage of the competition.
