A Chennai Super Kings fast bowler’s lookalike grabbed attention online during Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Sunday. The viral moment featured a security staffer who bore a striking resemblance to CSK pace sensation Anshul Kamboj. Vijay, along with his political outfit Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, made a landmark entry in the 2026 elections, winning 108 seats. After stitching together a coalition administration that also includes the Congress, the actor was sworn in as Chief Minister, and that’s where the Kamboj lookalike moment drew instant reactions from viewers. Several CSK supporters were among the quickest to notice the similarities.
CSK later shared a video on social media on Wednesday, giving Anshul Kamboj a front-row view of the internet buzz. In the first part of the clip, Kamboj explains how he first spotted the meme and the constant messages he had been getting. He said that many people had already sent him the joking posts on Instagram, adding that he kept telling them he wasn’t the person in question. Kamboj also remarked that the resemblance was “a bit” there, though not complete, and suggested that he might be able to tell more once the lookalike removes his cap.
He said: “Actually, almost everyone has sent me this meme on my Instagram as well, so I was like, I’m just telling them, no, I’m not. Everyone is just asking me what are you doing there, what are you doing there? I don’t know what. But actually he’s looking a bit like me, not fully. Maybe when he removes his cap, then I will get to see more.”
The video then moved to the next segment, where Anshul Kamboj’s doppelganger finally meets him. The clip culminated with the meeting moment, captioned with the hashtag “WhistlePodu,” as the CSK lookalike appeared in front of the real player.
After the lookalike photograph and the meeting video began doing the rounds, another CSK star, Ravichandran Ashwin, jumped in with a playful post. On X, Ashwin wrote that duty always comes first, but on a day when the side needs a result—CSK vs LSG—it was “a bit too much.” He also urged Anshul Kamboj to get a cab and reach Chepauk as quickly as possible, calling it a “big game.”
In the match against Lucknow Super Giants, CSK secured a convincing five-wicket win, keeping their playoff hopes alive. The turnaround has been dramatic: after dropping their opening three games, Chennai bounced back by winning six of their last eight fixtures. With that momentum, they will be looking to collect two points when they face LSG again on May 15, before closing out their league campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans in their last two matches.
CSK’s path remains clear—if they manage to win all of their remaining games, they will be guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.
