Chennai Super Kings have confirmed that all-rounder Jamie Overton will return to the United Kingdom from the Indian Premier League to undergo further evaluation of a right thigh problem. The 32-year-old England international has been a key contributor for the five-time champions during IPL 2026, and the franchise says the next step is assessment and treatment to determine the extent of the injury.
Overton returns for right-thigh assessment
CSK stated on social media that Overton has sustained a right thigh injury and will head back to the UK for additional checks and management. The move comes after he made an impact across both departments of the game in the ongoing season.
In IPL 2026, Overton featured in 10 matches for Chennai, claiming 14 wickets and adding 136 runs with the bat, underlining his value as an all-round option for the team.
Injury update adds to CSK’s crowded sidelined list
The thigh issue is the latest setback for a long list of players across the tournament who have either missed parts of their campaigns due to injury or have been unable to take the field at all. CSK’s current situation reflects that broader trend, with multiple absences affecting squad planning at different stages.
Earlier on Wednesday, the franchise also announced a squad adjustment, bringing in Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha as cover after the injury to Maharashtra all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh.
Chennai have also dealt with other injuries during the season, including the loss of former skipper MS Dhoni from action at points, as well as top-order batter Ayush Mhatre and seamer Khaleel Ahmed, who were sidelined midway through the campaign.
On top of the injury concerns, CSK have not had two overseas players—Australia’s Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson—available at any stage of IPL 2026.
