Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings have made another mid-season adjustment in IPL 2026, with injuries continuing to disrupt their plans. Jamie Overton, the franchise’s second-leading wicket-taker in the campaign, has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a right thigh injury. In his place, CSK have brought in South African all-rounder Dian Forrester, signing him for ₹75 lakh, the league confirmed in a statement on Thursday.
Forrester marked his South Africa debut in March this year against New Zealand and has since appeared in five international matches, contributing 83 runs. His most recent franchise stint came in the Pakistan Super League, where he played for Rawalpindiz.
CSK had earlier announced on Wednesday that Overton would travel back to the United Kingdom to determine the full extent of the injury. During his time with the five-time winners this season, Overton has been a key contributor, claiming 14 wickets and scoring 136 runs across 10 matches.
With the bat and ball, Overton’s numbers across formats have been strong. He has amassed more than 1,000 runs in first-class cricket at an average exceeding 45, while his List A record also features an average above 50. In T20 cricket, he has scored 681 runs at a strike rate of over 140.
Official Announcement
Welcome aboard, Dian Forrester! Note: Forrester joins the CSK squad in place of Jamie Overton.
The setback for CSK comes after another wave of fitness issues. The 32-year-old England all-rounder’s injury is the latest among players who have either been sidelined during the tournament or have not been able to take the field.
Overton’s last outing for CSK saw him deliver a decisive impact, earning Player of the Match honours for figures of 3/36 in the team’s previous game. That performance came in CSK’s five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants at Chepauk on May 11.
CSK have also already acted on earlier injury concerns this season, adding Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha as a replacement for the injured Maharashtra all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh.
Across the campaign, the Chennai franchise has also had to manage absences including former captain MS Dhoni, who has been unavailable, while top-order batter Ayush Mhatre and seamer Khaleel Ahmed were both forced out due to injuries sustained mid-season.
Looking ahead, CSK will face Lucknow Super Giants next on May 15, with the match scheduled in Lucknow.
