Ammy Virk Slams Shreyas Iyer as Punjab Kings Suffer 5th Straight IPL Loss

Punjabi singer Amninder Pal Singh, better known as Ammy Virk, has launched a sharp attack on Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer after the franchise suffered a fifth straight defeat on Thursday. PBKS had enjoyed a blistering start to IPL 2026, winning six of their opening seven matches, but the momentum has completely slipped—Punjab have now lost five matches in a row following a loss to the Mumbai Indians in Dharamsala.

Chasing a tough ask, PBKS posted 200/8 at the HPCA Stadium, yet their bowlers couldn’t hold the line. Tilak Varma played a decisive innings of 75 not out off 33 balls, guiding Mumbai to victory with one ball remaining. The result kept the pressure firmly on Punjab’s leadership, and Virk made his feelings clear about Iyer’s captaincy during the game.

Virk, who is an avid supporter of PBKS, claimed that the veteran batter’s tactical decisions went awry at key moments. Speaking on Sports Tak, he said, “I’m really hurt. There were 3-4 blunders. When Chahal was over the ball, why did he remove him? He was in such good form. Where Marco Jansen bowled, Arshdeep should’ve been given the ball. At least an opportunity should’ve been given. How do we support? My heart is broken, it is such a humiliation.”

Despite the six-wicket loss, Shreyas remained upbeat about Punjab’s prospects and insisted the team can still salvage their campaign. He pointed to the matches ahead, expressing confidence before PBKS take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) next.

“Definitely excited for the next opportunity. It’s an afternoon game, and we’ve got to win two out of two. It’s going to be an exciting two games. Can’t wait to play them,” Shreyas said.

Punjab Kings currently sit with 13 points from 12 outings. After beginning the season with six wins and a draw, they were considered early title contenders. But the run of five straight defeats has dramatically changed their fortunes, and now PBKS need to win both of their remaining fixtures to keep any realistic chance of reaching the playoffs alive.
