Mohammad Amir and Faheem Ashraf have been hit with disciplinary action by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following an ugly confrontation during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 game between Rawalpindiz and Islamabad United. The incident, which took place in Match No. 34 of the tournament, has led both players to receive a fine of 10% of their match fees for a Level 1 breach of the PSL Code of Conduct.
PCB sanctions: fines and Code of Conduct violations
The PCB’s official communication states that the punishment was imposed for misconduct during the PSL 2026 encounter at the National Stadium in Karachi.
- Mohammad Amir was found to have breached Article 2.5, which covers “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during a match.”
- Faheem Ashraf was sanctioned for violating Article 2.21, which relates to “bringing the game into disrepute.”
- Amir and Ashraf both pleaded guilty to the charges put forward by the on-field umpires, Alex Wharf and Faisal Khan Aafreedi.
- They also accepted the penalties awarded by the Match Referee, Sir Richard Richardson.
How the clash unfolded during Islamabad United’s innings
The altercation occurred after Faheem Ashraf’s dismissal—when Amir struck in the third ball of the 17th over of Islamabad United’s innings.
What began as an on-field moment escalated quickly: Amir delivered an animated send-off after removing the left-handed batter, and the pace and line of the delivery—described as a slower bouncer—proved awkward for Ashraf as he attempted the ramp shot.
- Amir’s emphatic reaction followed the wicket of the left-handed batter.
- Ashraf reacted aggressively, charging towards Amir and pointing his bat while exchanging words.
- Amir responded as well, before teammates intervened to separate the duo.
- Faheem also required restraint from two Rawalpindiz players before he returned to the dugout.
Result and individual performances
On the field, Rawalpindiz secured a convincing win by six wickets, successfully chasing 138 with six wickets in hand and 11 balls remaining.
- Mohammad Rizwan earned Player of the Match honours for scoring 45 runs off 38 balls.
- For Islamabad United, Faheem Ashraf contributed 11 runs.
- For Rawalpindiz, Mohammad Amir finished with two wickets, dismissing Faheem Ashraf and Sameer Minhas.
