Angkrish Raghuvanshi Fined 20% After IPL Outburst vs LSG, Demerit Point

Kolkata Knight Riders batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi received disciplinary action on Monday after an outburst during his team’s Indian Premier League 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium. The 21-year-old from Mumbai was fined 20% of his match fee and handed a demerit point for crossing Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials in Match No. 38.

Charge under IPL Code of Conduct

Raghuvanshi was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which covers “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.” The incident came in the fifth over of KKR’s innings, when he was dismissed for obstructing the field.

  • Additional penalty: one demerit point
  • Code violation: Article 2.2 (abuse of equipment/ground-related items during the match)
  • Time of incident: fifth over of KKR’s innings

What happened after the dismissal

Following his dismissal, Raghuvanshi reacted aggressively. He struck the boundary cushion with his bat and then threw his helmet into the dugout in a similar manner. He was also unhappy with the third umpire’s decision that had sent him back, and he argued his case after the call.

Despite the frustration, the batter admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction from the match referee.

  • Reaction moments: hit the boundary cushion and threw his helmet into the dugout
  • Dispute: displeasure with the third umpire’s decision
  • Resolution: accepted the match referee’s sanction after admitting the offence

Coach Abhishek Nayar not sanctioned

While Raghuvanshi faced punishment, KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar was spared any sanction. No penalties were issued to a key support staff member as well.

After Raghuvanshi was given out, Nayar was seen in an intense exchange with the fourth umpire, with the conversation running for more than five minutes.

Ball-by-ball sequence leading to the obstruction call

The dismissal occurred on the final delivery of the fifth over, bowled by Lucknow pacer Prince Yadav. Raghuvanshi nudged the ball toward mid-on and set off for a single, with Cameron Green then sending him back. As the throw arrived toward the striker’s end, Raghuvanshi dived to try to make his ground.

During the dive, the throw struck him, prompting Mohammed Shami to appeal for obstructing the field. The on-field umpire referred the matter to the third umpire.

After consulting replays for two minutes, Rohan Pandit concluded that Raghuvanshi had deliberately come in the way of the throw and upheld the out decision.

Match outcome: KKR edge LSG in the Super Over

In the same contest, KKR ultimately came out on top, sealing a thrilling win in the Super Over against Lucknow Super Giants. Rinku Singh was named Player of the Match for an all-round display.

With the victory, KKR climbed to the eighth position in the points table, while LSG fell to the bottom of the standings.
