NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders batter and wicket-keeper Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been handed a disciplinary sanction following a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Lucknow Super Giants. The punishment includes a fine of 20% of his match fee along with one demerit point. The incident unfolded after he was ruled out for obstructing the field, prompting a visible outburst where he struck the boundary cushion with his bat and then threw his helmet in frustration.
The IPL later confirmed the action through an official release. It stated: “Angkrish Raghuvanshi, batter and wicket-keeper, Kolkata Knight Riders, has been fined 20% of his match fee and has also accumulated one Demerit Point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during Match No. 38 against Lucknow Super Giants.”
The league also outlined the specific clause involved in the offence. “Raghuvanshi was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to ‘abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.’ The incident occurred in the 5th over, when, after being given out for ‘obstructing the field’, Raghuvanshi struck the boundary cushion with his bat in an aggressive manner and subsequently threw his helmet into the dugout in a similar manner,” the statement added.
Raghuvanshi accepted the charge and the corresponding penalty. Typically, Level 1 violations result in monetary fines or warnings depending on the seriousness of the behaviour.
While the controversy grabbed attention, the game itself turned into a thriller. KKR eventually edged LSG in a Super Over after both sides managed 155 runs in regulation. Rinku Singh’s unbeaten 83 was crucial as KKR regrouped after a shaky start. LSG forced the tie by hitting a six off the final delivery, but KKR held their nerve in the tiebreaker, with Rinku Singh named Player of the Match.
